Now, Mr. Cruncher," said Miss Pross, whose eyes were red with felicity; "if you are ready, I am." ¡¡¡¡Jerry hoarsely professed himself at Miss Pross's service. He had worn all his rust off long ago, but nothing would file his spiky head down. ¡¡¡¡"There's all manner of things wanted," said Miss Pross, "and we shall have a precious time of it. We want wine, among the rest. Nice toasts these Redheads will be drinking, wherever we buy it." ¡¡

¡¡"It will be much the same to your knowledge, miss, I should think," retorted Jerry, "whether they drink your health or the Old Un's." ¡¡¡¡"Who's he?" said Miss Pross. ¡¡¡¡Mr. Cruncher, with some diffidence, explained himself as meaning "Old Nick's." ¡¡¡¡"Ha!" said Miss Pross, "it doesn't need an interpreter to explain the meaning of these creatures. Miss Clarissa and my aunt roam all over London, to find out articles of furniture for Dora and me to look at. It would be better for them to buy the goods at once, without this ceremony of inspection; for, when we go to see a kitchen fender and meat-screen, Dora sees a Chinese house for Jip, with little bells on the top, and prefers that. And now it is, that I begin to see her solitary brother passing through the dark streets at night, and looking, as he goes, among the wandering faces. I never speak to him at such an hour. I know too well, as his grave figure passes onward, what he seeks, and what he dreads.

done, in which I had perversely wandered away from the voice of my own heart; I knew nothing of. I only knew that I was fervently in earnest, when I felt the rest and peace of having Agnes near me. ¡¡¡¡In her placid sisterly manner; with her beaming eyes; with her tender voice; and with that sweet composure, which had long ago made the house that held her quite a sacred place to me; she soon won me from this weakness, and led me on to tell all that had happened since our last meeting. ¡¡¡¡'And there is not another word to tell, Agnes,' said I, when I had made an end of my confidence. 'Now, my Trotwood,' returned Agnes, with a pleasant smile. 'It must be on someone else.' ¡¡¡¡'On Dora?' said I. ¡¡¡¡'Assuredly.' ¡¡¡¡'Why, I have not mentioned, Agnes,' said I, a little embarrassed, 'that Dora is rather difficult to - I would not, for the world, say, to rely upon, because she is the soul
